CCTV Evidence Leads Police to Arrest Fiancée and Lover in Pune Murder
In Pune, police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal, whose death initially appeared to be a tragic accident. Investigators identified the suspects as his fiancée, Siya Goyal, aged 20, and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, aged 22. CCTV footage obtained from the Lohagad Fort, where the incident occurred, played a crucial role in piecing together the events leading to the fatal fall.
On June 18, 2026, Ketan fell into a gorge while trekking at the historic fort. Initially, the incident was reported as an accidental death, with Siya claiming that Ketan had slipped. However, police noticed irregularities during their investigation, prompting them to further scrutinise the circumstances surrounding Ketan's demise.
Police officers confirmed that the CCTV footage revealed a hooded man trailing Ketan and Siya during their trek. The unusual attire of the individual—a hoodie—was particularly notable given that the temperature on that day was approximately 33 degrees Celsius, raising suspicions about his presence near the couple. The footage showed the man positioned a few metres behind, wearing a headset, and exhibiting peculiar behaviour when Siya glanced back.
Further investigation revealed that Siya had previously expressed doubts about her upcoming wedding to Ketan, which was scheduled for November in Udaipur. Family members informed authorities that she had attempted to persuade Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort multiple times in the lead-up to the tragedy, indicating a potential motive for planning his demise before their planned wedding.
During inquiries, it was disclosed that Siya had previously attempted to push Ketan off a cliff on June 14 but he had managed to grasp onto a bush, avoiding disaster at that time. Officers discovered numerous communications between Siya and Chetan, solidifying their connection and suggesting a premeditated plan to eliminate Ketan.
As the investigation progressed, authorities analysed technical evidence, including call detail records, which uncovered thousands of calls exchanged between Siya and Chetan. This established a connection indicating a conspiracy against Ketan, prompting police to focus on Chaudhary.
The inquiry team subsequently located and interrogated Chetan, where further evidence of the conspiracy emerged. He reportedly stated they chose to murder Ketan rather than elope, as they believed fleeing would dishonour Siya's family.
Both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy. The case continues to unfold, with investigators piecing together the intricate motives that led to this shocking incident.
