Cabinet Secretary Warns Against Disruptions to NEET-UG 2026 Retest
Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan confirms strict measures for NEET-UG 2026 retest amid investigations into previous exam irregularities.

Dr. T.V. Somanathan, the Cabinet Secretary of India, held a meeting on June 12, 2026, to discuss the preparations for the upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination. The test is scheduled for June 21, 2026. In his statement during the review, Somanathan asserted that both Central and State Governments, as well as district authorities, are cooperating closely to facilitate the re-examination process. He emphasized that anyone attempting to undermine, disrupt, or alter the integrity of the test will face severe legal repercussions.

The NEET exam, crucial for medical college admissions in India, was originally conducted on May 3, 2026, but was cancelled on May 12 due to allegations of a paper leak. This incident is currently the subject of a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has made several arrests related to the case.

During the preparation review, Somanathan highlighted the importance of ensuring a smooth, transparent, and secure examination process. He has engaged with various governmental agencies and conducted meetings with Chief Secretaries across the States to discuss arrangements and facilitate coordination. The Cabinet Secretary aims to restore confidence in the examination process following the recent controversies.

"The full might and weight of the law will fall on any person trying in any manner to distort, disrupt or tamper with the integrity or smooth conduct of the re-examination," noted Somanathan. His remarks reflect the government's commitment to maintaining fairness in the examination system.

The need for effective communication and coordination among stakeholders has been stressed, as the administration seeks to prevent further incidents that could compromise the integrity of the NEET examination process. As authorities prepare for the re-examination, the focus remains on ensuring a credible and secure environment for all candidates involved.
