BTS Declines Grammy Submission for 2027 Awards Ceremony

BTS, the globally popular K-pop group, has officially announced that it will refrain from submitting its music for the 69th Grammy Awards, which are set to take place on February 7, 2027. The news was shared collectively by all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—on their individual Instagram accounts.

In their statement, the members expressed their desire for their music to be appreciated as it is, without being categorised by regions or languages. They stated, “We have decided not to submit for Grammy consideration this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank Army and everyone who has always stood by us.”

This announcement follows the Recording Academy's recent introduction of a new category: Best Asian Pop Music Performance. This category is designed to celebrate artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances that originate from, or are widely acknowledged within, Asian markets. The Academy's definition includes genres like K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop and emphasizes significant use of Asian languages in the works presented.

BTS has previously received nominations for Grammy awards in categories such as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video, although the group has yet to secure a win. Since 2019, all seven members have been voting members of the Recording Academy, which had led to increased anticipation for their potential first Grammy victory next year.

In March, BTS released their fifth studio album, "Arirang," marking a significant moment as it came after the members completed their mandatory military service. The album has achieved considerable success, placing at the top of both the Billboard singles and albums charts and generating a significant global response.

Currently, BTS is on its “World Tour Arirang,” recently concluding their European shows with a performance in Paris. The group is expected to resume their tour in the United States beginning August 1, 2027, starting again at MetLife Stadium, the same venue they performed at during the historic halftime show of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final on July 19, 2026. For that event, BTS performed their 2020 hit “Dynamite” during an eleven-minute set alongside artists like Madonna, Shakira, and Justin Bieber, marking a significant milestone as it was the first halftime show in the tournament's 96-year history.
