British Couple Ships Auto-Rickshaw to UK After Journey Across India
A British couple has taken their love for India to new heights by shipping back an entire auto-rickshaw after an extensive journey across the country. Helen and Mick embarked on a 75-day adventure covering 4,218 kilometres in their red-and-black Bajaj auto-rickshaw, affectionately named Timmy the Tin Can. The couple traversed various states and cities, including stops at notable landmarks such as the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Timmy became more than just a mode of transportation during their travels; it was a unique companion with cartoon eyes and a cheerful smile painted on its front. After their memorable experience, the couple faced a significant decision regarding Timmy’s fate at the end of their holiday. Choosing not to leave their beloved vehicle behind, they arranged for it to be shipped back to the United Kingdom.
The shipping process turned out to be a lengthy affair, spanning six months in total. Finally, on 23 October 2026, they welcomed Timmy at the London Gateway Port. The rickshaw had made its way from Indian roads to British shores after its extensive travels.
The story of Timmy’s transit was shared widely on social media, including a notable post from industrialist Harsh Goenka, who expressed excitement over the journey. He commented, “An Indian three-wheeler making its way to the UK! From Indian roads to British streets, what a journey.”
Although Timmy has arrived in the UK, the couple faces further challenges. Before they can drive it locally, Helen and Mick need to complete essential paperwork and ensure Timmy complies with UK regulations. This additional step marks the next chapter in Timmy’s unique journey, which began on the bustling streets of India.
For the couple, this unconventional souvenir represents not only their adventure but also a cherished memory they are not ready to let go of. Timmy's arrival is symbolic of their deep connection to the country they visited, and it highlights the lengths to which some will go to hold onto their experiences.
