Delhi Traders Report Rs 10,000 Crore Loss Amid INDIA Bloc Rally
Traders in Delhi lament significant financial losses as 250,000 shops shut operations due to the recent INDIA bloc rally.

Traders in Delhi have expressed grave concerns following a recent rally by the opposition coalition known as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Approximately 250,000 shops reportedly closed, causing an estimated financial impact of Rs 10,000 crore (approximately £1 billion) on the local economy.

The INDIA bloc, which includes various political parties united to contest against the ruling government, organised the rally to fortify its presence in the national political landscape. However, the event led to widespread disruptions in business activities across the capital.

Many traders have voiced frustrations over the impact of the rally, claiming that their livelihoods have been heavily affected. Rajiv Mehta, president of the Delhi Traders' Association, stated, “The shutting down of shops during the rally has caused unprecedented losses for small businesses in our community.”

The timing of the rally coincided with peak shopping hours in the city, compounding the financial blow to merchants. With significant traffic disruptions, many customers were unable to reach shops, leading to a dramatic decrease in sales.

Authorities have issued statements urging political parties to consider the economic implications of such large-scale events on local businesses. They emphasised the necessity for better coordination to minimise disruptions during political gatherings.

As the dust settles from this political event, traders are left grappling with the aftermath. Many are calling for compensation from the government to mitigate their losses and seeking assurances that future rallies will take local businesses into account before being scheduled.

The prevailing sentiment among traders is one of discontent towards the prioritisation of political events over local economic welfare. They argue that without adequate support, many small businesses may struggle to recover financially from the significant setbacks they have faced during this period.
