Panchkula School Principal Suspended Following Assault on Student

A shocking incident in Panchkula, India, has resulted in the suspension of the principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School. This decision follows the assault of a six-year-old girl by an eight-year-old boy, which was captured by the school’s CCTV cameras. The incident took place on 28 October and has raised significant concerns regarding student safety within the school system.

The footage reveals the older boy striking the younger girl, banging her head against a desk, and repeatedly kicking her while she was on the floor. Following the assault, parents of the victim expressed outrage, gathering outside the school to protest against the management's negligence.

The girl was promptly taken to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, where she is now reported to be in stable condition and out of danger. Meanwhile, the boy, who is a minor, has been placed in an observation home and is undergoing a psychological evaluation as part of the preliminary investigation.

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda has initiated an inquiry after reviewing the footage. In light of this incident, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma has established a committee headed by an additional deputy commissioner to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditi Singh, an FIR under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act has been filed against the principal, the class in-charge, and the school security guard. "The investigation intends to address any lapses in the school’s safety protocols," Singh stated.

The police investigation has highlighted negligence on the part of the school administration, prompting the local authorities to enforce stricter safety regulations. In an effort to prevent future incidents, the Panchkula Police plan to develop a detailed standard operating procedure for schools in the area. This will be enforced across all educational institutions to enhance student safety.

Onlookers noted that the incident came to light only when the girl's family did not find her at the expected pick-up time. The family's concerns were further exacerbated by their assertion that the accused boy misled them into believing that his actions were legitimate.

In response to the public outcry, the district elementary education officer suspended two junior basic teachers, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. The investigation continues as both the school and local authorities aim to address issues of safety and responsibility within educational environments.
