BRICS Summit Highlights India's Growing Global Influence
Prime Minister Modi states New Delhi Declaration reflects global trust in India, following significant economic growth reported in September.

During the recently concluded 2026 BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration as a strong indicator of the world’s increasing trust in India. Speaking at the inauguration of SEMICON India 2026 on his birthday, Modi highlighted the successful negotiations that led to the resolution of geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United Arab Emirates, which facilitated this consensus.

The Prime Minister remarked on India’s impressive economic performance, citing a quarterly growth rate of 7.8 per cent despite current global challenges. He pointed out that the government’s quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) report was released earlier this month, confirming this growth amid a difficult economic landscape.

Notably, Modi mentioned that Japan's credit rating agency had upgraded India's sovereign rating, a significant milestone that had not occurred in approximately 35 years. This upgrade, coupled with robust economic indicators, underscores what he described as an interlinked narrative of economic recovery and rising international confidence in India.

The BRICS Summit, which concluded just days prior, served as a focal point for Modi's commentary on India's position within the global economic order. He stated, “On one hand, India’s economy is growing. On the other, the world’s trust in India is also increasing.” He elaborated on the conference's key outcomes that contribute to this growing recognition of India.

Further reflecting on the month of September, Modi mentioned the Global FinTech Fest held in Mumbai, where discussions centred around forward-thinking financial technologies, including Agentic AI and quantum technology. The completion of approximately 3,000 kilometres of the Dedicated Freight Corridor in India was also highlighted as a key infrastructure achievement.

Modi linked the cultural significance of his birthday with the launch of the Prime Minister Vishwakarma scheme, stating that this reflects India’s blend of enduring traditions with contemporary innovations.

The ongoing SEMICON India 2026 event, focusing on the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, is being held from September 17 to 19 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Delhi. The theme of this year’s convention is ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’. As the Prime Minister continues to advocate for India's technological advancements, the event marks another step in bolstering the nation’s role in global technological development.
