BRICS Summit 2023 Highlights Warm Interactions Among Leaders

The recent BRICS summit held in New Delhi showcased numerous world leaders engaging in informal and compassionate interactions over a span of two days. While official images and portraits tended to emphasise the formal aspects and structured discussions typical of such events, behind the scenes, leaders shared light-hearted exchanges, hugs, and smiles that captured the spirit of diplomacy. A video montage has surfaced, highlighting these candid moments. The footage features Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping as they appear to enjoy tea together, deep in conversation. Additionally, Modi is seen interacting with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, among other dignitaries. At the summit venue, Modi guided world leaders through various cultural displays, including traditional rangoli and artworks. Modi and Putin were also recorded riding an elevator together, closely flanked by their security teams. Amidst the personal interactions, the summit saw significant political discussions. BRICS member countries endorsed the New Delhi Declaration, which expressed support for the aspirations of India and Brazil to gain a more substantial role within the United Nations, especially concerning its Security Council. The declaration reaffirmed commitments to reform the Security Council to enhance democracy and representation, particularly for developing nations. In total, the summit not only served as a platform for bilateral engagements but also represented a unity among nations aiming to enhance their respective influences on the global stage.
