BJP-MGP Alliance Wins Goa Zilla Panchayat Elections
Prime Minister Modi thanks Goa voters as BJP-MGP alliance secures majority in Zilla Panchayat polls, outperforming Congress in the state.

In a significant electoral victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) have won a majority in the Goa Zilla Panchayat elections. The results, announced on December 22, reveal the alliance secured over 30 out of the 50 seats available, while the Indian National Congress managed to win only 10 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Goa for their support. In a message posted on the social media platform X, he stated, "I thank my sisters and brothers of Goa for blessing the BJP-MGP (NDA) family with strong support in the Zilla Panchayat elections. This will add more vigour to our efforts for Goa’s growth. Our hardworking NDA Karyakartas have done commendable work on the ground, which has led to this result."

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also took to X to congratulate the newly elected members of the Zilla Panchayat. He attributed the decisive victory to the public’s faith in the BJP-led government, referred to as the "Double Engine Sarkar," which he believes will further accelerate development in the state.

CM Sawant stated, "I am confident the BJP-led Alliance will accelerate all-round development, strengthen transparent and accountable governance, and work towards a Viksit Goa and Viksit Bharat."

The electoral process, held on December 20, was marked by the establishment of approximately 1,284 polling stations across the state, with voting conducted through paper ballots, a shift from the electronic voting machines used in previous elections. This change aimed to ensure a smooth electoral process.

In addition to the BJP-MGP alliance and Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party each managed to win one seat, while four independent candidates also emerged victorious.

The Goa Zilla Panchayat elections are seen as a crucial political event as they set the stage for the upcoming 2027 Goa Assembly elections, with many observers noting that the results could significantly influence future political alliances and strategies in the state. The BJP's performance in these elections follows their success in the 2022 Assembly elections, where they emerged as the largest party.

The results are being closely analysed, as they reflect the current political landscape in Goa, demonstrating a clear preference among voters for the BJP-MGP alliance over the Congress party, which has seen a decline in its influence in the state.
