Bengaluru Auto Driver Arrested After Viral Video Incident
A 30-year-old auto rickshaw driver, identified as Chetan, was apprehended by police in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, following a violent incident captured on video that gained considerable traction on social media. The altercation involved Chetan and two young women and reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the auto fare.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, with the video surfacing online the following day. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the conflict escalated when one of the girls instigated the confrontation. Subsequently, a second girl joined in the attack on Chetan, who then retaliated, resulting in physical blows exchanged between the parties involved. A third female bystander, known to the other two girls, intervened to cease the fighting.
Chetan, who resides in Kudlu Gate, maintains that he acted in self-defence. He claimed that after hiring the auto, the girls refused to pay him, which prompted the argument.
An officer from the HSR Layout police stated, “After the incident came to our attention, we reached out to the girls and encouraged them to file a formal complaint. At first, they requested more time but later declined to proceed with the complaint.”
The driver has also insinuated that the girls were under the influence of alcohol during the altercation. He expressed that he might consider filing a counter-complaint against the girls based on the circumstances of the incident. As of now, he has been released on bail pending further investigations.
The HSR Layout police have initiated a case regarding the incident as they continue to gather evidence and statements from all parties involved.
