The death toll in the Bargi Dam boat tragedy has risen to 13 as rescue teams recover the last two bodies in Madhya Pradesh.

Officials in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, reported on Sunday that the toll from the recent boat tragedy at Bargi Dam has reached 13. The body recovery operation concluded with the discovery of the last two missing individuals, identified as Mayuram, aged nine, and 39-year-old Kamraj Arya.

The tragedy unfolded on Thursday, prompting an extensive search operation that lasted three days. This operation was aided by teams from the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), as well as local police and home guard personnel.

Collector Raghvendra Singh confirmed the fatalities to The Hindu, emphasising the urgency of the rescue efforts during the search.

The incident has prompted discussions about safety regulations surrounding maritime activities in the region, as local authorities investigate the circumstances that contributed to this devastating event.
