Awarapan 2 Secures U/A 16+ Rating with Minimal Edits

The much-anticipated sequel, Awarapan 2, is set for release in cinemas on August 14, 2026. Following the positive reception of its predecessor, excitement for this film is at an all-time high. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded the film a U/A 16+ certificate, subject to minimal edits. This certification indicates that the film is suitable for viewers aged 16 and above with parental guidance. The examiners stipulated several modifications regarding sensitive themes depicted in the movie.

First and foremost, the filmmakers have been instructed to include disclaimers concerning drug use and child trafficking within the film. Similar warnings were mandated for scenes involving smoking. According to CBFC guidelines established in 2021, the film’s title also needs to be displayed in Hindi.

Additionally, adjustments were required for the portrayal of drug consumption, with a static message concerning anti-drug advocacy to be placed on the bottom right corner during those scenes. Offensive language was instructed to be replaced both in audio and subtitles. A particular scene in the second half showcasing violence had to be reduced in duration by 50%. Furthermore, in three instances, graphic violence was ordered to be removed entirely. The details of a scene depicting drug use were also requested to be excised.

The adjustments were finalised on August 5, and the approved runtime of Awarapan 2 is approximately 140 minutes. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, and Shabana Azmi.

Interestingly, Awarapan 2 stands out as the only notable Hindi film released this month that has not been classified with an 'A' certificate, contrasting with Batwara 1947, which received such a rating. Following Awarapan 2, Toxic is scheduled for release on August 26, with Mirzapur The Movie debuting on September 4, both expected to also be rated 'A'.

In related developments, Emraan Hashmi has addressed speculation regarding potential delays in the film's release. During an Instagram Live session, he assured fans that the film remains on track for its scheduled date. Producer Vishesh Bhatt stated that any concerns about postponement were unfounded, attributing the film's lengthy production timeline to extensive action sequences and a prior injury incurred by Hashmi. The film sequel explores the journey of Shivam, a character who faced a critical situation at the end of the first movie, offering a narrative on what follows.

Awarapan 2 promises to hold onto the strong legacy of its predecessor, which was received well upon its release in 2007. Viewers are keenly awaiting the upcoming trailer, scheduled for release on August 6, further heightening anticipation.
