Asian Games 2026: India Excels in Day 2 Events

In a strong display of talent, Indian athletes continued to excel on Day 2 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. The country’s participation across varied sports, including table tennis and mixed martial arts, has sparked hope for further medal achievements.

Talented player Sutirtha Mukherjee secured an impressive victory against Pakistan’s Aleena Khan, winning with scores of 11-3, 11-3, and 11-4. This decisive win provided India with an early advantage in the women’s team table tennis match. Following this, Syndrela Das was also leading in her match against Pakistan, looking poised to extend India’s advantage.

In mixed doubles table tennis, the Indian duo of Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena achieved their second consecutive victory. They triumphed over Mongolia’s Bud Nyamdorj and Enkhkhuslen Ganbaatar with scores of 4-2, 4-1, 4-1, 4-0, and 5-3. Remaining unbeaten after two matches, they are set to face Korea in their next fixture.

In swimming, Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50-metre backstroke final, finishing third in his heat with a time of 25.37 seconds. He secured the final qualifying spot and currently stands joint ninth out of the ten finalists.

India’s strength in sepaktakraw was showcased when the men’s team, after trailing 5-10, made a remarkable comeback to secure a victory over Japan. This match saw Akash’s substitution inspire a turnaround, culminating in scores of 15-13 for both sets.

The shooting events continued to be pivotal for India, with Rudrankksh Patil, Parth Mane, and Himanshu Dhillon competing in the men’s 10-metre air rifle qualification round. Their scores varied as competitors progressed through different shot counts.

In women’s Changquan wushu, Nyeman Wangsu scored 9.573, placing her 13th among 14 participants, thus ruling her out of medal contention. However, in soft tennis mixed doubles, Jay Meena and Aadhya Tiwari triumphed over Cambodia, further solidifying India’s strong position in the tournament.

The upcoming events include further shooting competitions and mixed martial arts, with Suchika Tariyal set to fight Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon in the women’s traditional 60-kilogram semifinal. This matchup guarantees Suchika at least a bronze medal, following her victory over Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa.

With a busy schedule on Day 2, India is expected to compete in various sports including hockey, kabaddi, and badminton. The significance of these events extends beyond immediate victories, as each performance contributes to India’s ambitions at the Asian Games 2026.
