Asian Games 2026: Day 7 Highlights and Results from India

On Day 7 of the Asian Games 2026, several Indian athletes delivered impressive performances, earning their place in the spotlight. Animesh Kujur triumphed in his men’s 200m heat, finishing with a time of 21.10 seconds. His performance ensures he advances to the semifinals, which are scheduled to begin at 4:54 pm IST.

Tejaswin Shankar participated in the shot put event, securing a best throw of 13.16 metres, which earned him 677 points. This achievement places him third overall with a total of 2,484 points. He trails behind Japan’s Yuma Maruyama by a mere four points and stands 40 points behind the leader, Chen Xinghua from China. N Thowfeeq recorded a best throw of 10.76 metres, resulting in 531 points and a ninth-place standing with a total of 2,290 points.

In shooting, India added another silver medal to its Asian Games tally. The women's 50m rifle 3 positions team, comprising Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa K. Vinod, and Ashi Chouksey, achieved a combined score of 1,763 points, earning them second place. China secured gold by equalling the Games Record with a score of 1,773 points. Both Tilottama and Vidarsa advanced to the individual final, finishing in third and sixth places, respectively, while Ashi fell short of qualification.

Tilottama delivered strong performances in the standing series, scoring 97 and 98, while Vidarsa displayed resilience, recovering from a challenging kneeling series to finish with scores of 98 and 98. Ashi's competition ended as she scored 585 points, failing to qualify for the individual final.

The Indian contingent in archery showcased strong performances, with Chikitha Tanipathi leading in the women’s compound qualification round with 705 points, just shy of the Games Record. Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished in 13th with 699 points, while 18-year-old Prithika Pradeep ended in 20th with 695 points. In team rankings, India matched China in total points with 2,099; however, a tie-breaker placed them in second.

In fencing, India experienced a boost as both the women’s foil and men’s sabre teams advanced to the quarterfinals. The women’s team, consisting of Joys Ashitha Stalinraj, Mina Devi Naorem, Kanupriya Chawla, and Sonia Devi Waikhom, defeated Indonesia 45-24, while the men’s sabre team, including Vishal Thapar and Karan Singh, overcame the Philippines with a score of 45-27.

Both teams will return to action at 8 am IST, with hopes of securing a podium finish. In kayaking, Harshwardhan Singh Shaktawat placed fourth in the men’s kayak single 500m semifinal and is now set for Final B, while Parvathy Geetha and Prasanna Kumar secured a place in the finals of the mixed kayak double 500m by finishing second in their semifinal.

The day saw Yashaswini Ghorpade exit the tournament after losing to Japan’s world No. 3 Miwa Harimoto in table tennis, marking another hurdle for India's badminton campaign. Manush Shah remains the only Indian paddler still in the running, preparing to face China’s Lin Shidong next.

In a significant development, Tejaswin Shankar, after his shot put attempt, failed to improve his long jump mark but recorded a personal best of 7.37m in his final jump in the long jump event. The decathlon continues to evolve as Shankar sits second with 1,807 points.

Lakshya Sen faced elimination in badminton after losing to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, which follows previous defeats for other key players in the Indian badminton team. The competition continues to intensify as athletes aim for medals and personal records throughout the Games.
