Apple Launches First Foldable iPhone Duo with Innovative Features
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch foldable display and advanced technologies, marking Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market.

Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, marking the company's first foray into the foldable smartphone segment. This new device was unveiled during a launch event held on September 9, 2026, where the latest iPhone models were showcased. The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display that can fold alongside a smaller 5.4-inch outer display. Apple hopes this new design will enhance user experience, making it suitable for multitasking, gaming, and content consumption.

The foldable construction allows the device to open into a slim profile while offering a large viewing area when fully extended. This model aims to combine style with functionality, as Apple claims it is the thinnest iPhone to date when unfolded. Notably, the device is equipped with an innovative nano-texture finish aimed at minimising glare, enhancing visibility in bright conditions.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by Apple's latest A20 Pro chip, designed to offer robust performance across various applications. One of the highlighted features includes an advanced camera system capable of capturing high-resolution images, supporting users' needs for photography and videography.

Notably, the device supports Apple Pencil on both screens, providing users with the ability to take notes and sketches directly on the displays. This is a feature previously seen in other foldable devices, showing that Apple is not entirely venturing into uncharted territory. Other specifications include durable materials such as ceramic shield technology for enhanced protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Additionally, the iPhone Duo comes with several software enhancements that users may find familiar. This includes features such as split-screen multitasking and a Dual View function, enabling a more comprehensive use of its larger display area. Apple has designed these functionalities to make the most of the device's unique features, emphasising both performance and ease of use.

Availability for the iPhone Duo is set to begin on October 23, 2026, with pre-orders starting on October 16. The device will be available in two colour options: star white and night sky. Apple executives have expressed optimism about the device’s potential impact in the market, indicating it represents a significant shift in the company's mobile device strategy.

John Ternus, Apple’s CEO, remarked during the event, "iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original. With an entirely new design, it redefines what it means to use a foldable phone."

As the smartphone industry continues to evolve, the iPhone Duo aims to not only cater to existing Apple users but also attract those interested in foldable technology, a segment that has seen significant growth in recent years. Apple’s entry into this space could potentially reshape consumer expectations around foldable devices, and it remains to be seen how well it will perform against established competitors such as Samsung and Motorola, who have long dominated the foldable smartphone market.
