Andhra Pradesh Announces New Districts to Enhance Governance
The government of Andhra Pradesh has recently announced significant changes in its administrative structure, including the creation of new districts, aimed at enhancing governance and operational efficiency. This reform has led to the establishment of Markapuram and Polavaram as new districts, increasing the total number of districts in the state to 28.
New Districts and Headquarters
In a series of official notifications, Rampachodavaram has been designated as the headquarters for Polavaram district, while Madanapalle will serve as the headquarters for Annamayya district. The rapid appointment of officials for these newly constituted districts reflects the government's commitment to swift implementation of these reforms.
The reorganisation aims to optimise the management of districts, revenue divisions, and mandals, which are administrative units within the state. According to the government orders, Annamayya district will consist of three revenue divisionsâMadanapalle, Pileru, and Rayachotiâand encompass a total of 25 mandals.
Polavaram district will include two revenue divisions, namely Rampachodavaram and Chinturu, along with 11 mandals. Additionally, Markapuram district will be divided into two revenue divisions, Markapuram and Kanigiri, comprising 21 mandals.
Broader Administrative Changes
These administrative adjustments also encompass the establishment of five new revenue divisions and alterations to mandal boundaries, which have been approved by the state Cabinet. Such changes are seen as pivotal in supporting Andhra Pradesh's Industrial Policy 4.0 and strategic investment initiatives.
The government asserts that smaller, efficiently managed districts will facilitate quicker approvals, minimise bureaucratic delays, and ensure the seamless execution of infrastructure projects linked to transportation and industrial sectors.
Clarifying the intent behind these changes, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasised that the reorganisation is not a political manoeuvre but rather a necessary administrative reform. The aim is to align governance structures with the developmental needs of the state and its planned industrial corridors.
Minister's Commitment to Growth
In related developments, State Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy highlighted the coalition government's dedication to the overall development of Andhra Pradesh. During a recent inauguration of the new district collectorate office in Markapuram, he stated, "The coalition government of the state is working sincerely for the development of all regions without any disparity."
The minister underscored the significance of the new Markapuram district as a testament to the government's commitment to fulfilling its promises, including the completion of the PS Velugonda project, which aims to provide drinking and irrigation water to local populations. The launch of the Markapuram district administration was marked by ceremonial activities, including traditional prayers and public celebrations.
Accessibility and Local Development
Raja Babu, the newly appointed district collector, expressed optimism about the accessibility of officials to the public, stating, "The creation of the district will make officials accessible to the people. Markapuram will become a developed region soon."
The inaugural event also featured remarks from local leaders, including Markapuram MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy, who reiterated his commitment to regional development and promised future initiatives following the completion of related projects.
As Andhra Pradesh steps into this new era of governance, the focus remains on enhancing administrative capabilities to foster a conducive environment for economic growth and community development.
