Amit Shah: No Legal Action for Infiltrators Who Return Voluntarily
In a recent address in Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Indian government has established a high-level committee focused on demographic changes related to border infiltration. He stated that those who choose to return voluntarily will not face any legal repercussions.
Amit Shah made these remarks during the inauguration of various development projects in Kalol and Gandhinagar Assembly constituencies, with an estimated budget of ₹340 crore. He highlighted that since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power in West Bengal, an increasing number of infiltrators have opted to return on their own accord.
The Minister noted the West Bengal government's swift actions in border management, including the provision of land for border fencing. He cited that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari promptly allocated 600 hectares of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) shortly after the government's formation. Additionally, he mentioned that 121 hectares for the Chicken’s Neck Corridor had also been handed over to the central government.
Shah claimed that under the previous administration in West Bengal, infiltration occurred daily, yet now the tide has reversed, with infiltrators beginning to return voluntarily. He expressed optimism that this trend would continue even before the formal identification campaign begins.
The Home Minister reiterated that bolstering border security infrastructure remains a government priority. He stated, “Under the leadership of Modi Ji, the saffron flag has soared across the entire Ganga route, from Gangotri to Gangasagar.” Shah concluded that the development model of Gujarat has now been adopted nationally, citing that the party's governance has expanded across 80% of India's geographical expanse over the past 12 years of the Modi administration.
