Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Stunning Performance Draws Global Praise
Rajasthan Royals' 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi captivates cricket fans after scoring 97 runs in IPL playoffs, setting new records.

Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are lauding 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the Rajasthan Royals opener, for his exceptional performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. Sooryavanshi made headlines after scoring 97 runs off just 29 balls during a match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, propelling his team to victory.

This remarkable innings not only led his team to a significant 47-run win but also helped Sooryavanshi break the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season. His tally now stands at 65, surpassing the previous record of 59 set by Chris Gayle in 2012.

Following this outstanding display, Rajasthan Royals are set to face the Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier on Friday, where the winner will progress to the final against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

James Franklin, the assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, expressed amazement at Sooryavanshi's abilities, describing him as a player with frightening potential. He commented, “I don’t think anyone’s ever seen a talent like this. It’s freakish what he’s doing at the moment. To think that he’s potentially got 25 years left in his career, it’s quite scary.”

Sooryavanshi's innings featured 12 sixes, including three consecutive sixes off the bowling of Hyderabad's captain, Pat Cummins. However, he narrowly missed setting a new record for the fastest century in IPL history, which is currently held at 30 balls.

Reflecting on his innings after being named player of the match, Sooryavanshi said, “I thought about it [the hundred] after I got out. At that time I was just focusing on contributing as much as I can.” He further emphasized his commitment to winning trophies over individual accolades, stating, “Hundreds will come, but the goal is to ensure how we win trophies.”

Last year, Sooryavanshi made a name for himself by hitting the first ball he faced in his IPL career for six and later becoming the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket. This season, he has accumulated an impressive 680 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 242.85.

Prominent figures in the cricketing world have taken to social media to commend Sooryavanshi's talents. Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar praised his technique and freedom of batting, describing the innings as “nothing short of spectacular.” Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan stated on X that Sooryavanshi should be included in the national team, declaring him “the best T20 opener in the world.”

Cricket author and broadcaster Bharat Sundaresan noted the extraordinary nature of Sooryavanshi's achievements, remarking, “Eight sixes in the first four overs of an innings? What are we watching? This is beyond incredible.” West Indies bowling icon Ian Bishop echoed similar sentiments, stating that the quality of Sooryavanshi’s strokes is exceptionally rare.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming matches, many eyes will be keenly focused on the young talent, who continues to dazzle with his performances on the international stage.
