National Geographic's 2026 Changemakers list includes Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra Jonas for their impactful contributions to society and the environment.

National Geographic has announced its 2026 list of global changemakers, recognising influential figures who are addressing critical challenges today. Indian actors Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra Jonas have garnered significant attention for their contributions to social and environmental causes. The list was unveiled on March 17, encapsulating the efforts of 33 leaders committed to effecting positive change across various domains.

Alia Bhatt has been celebrated for her advocacy of climate awareness and environmental sustainability. She has leveraged her platform to educate the public about ecological issues, aiming to inspire younger generations. Notably, her production company, Eternal Sunshine, produced a miniseries focused on the problem of elephant poaching and has ongoing partnerships with initiatives supporting environmental filmmaking. Her children's book, "Ed Finds a Home," aims to instil the importance of animal adoption in young readers. Additionally, Bhatt's fashion initiative, "Mi Wardrobe Is Su Wardrobe," channels proceeds towards eco-friendly charities, contributing to waste reduction. Her social media presence, known as Coexist, further amplifies the efforts of organisations advocating for animal rights. According to the official statement, "Bhatt’s approach to changemaking is varied and deeply rooted in her compassion and curiosity."

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been acknowledged for her relentless pursuit of improving healthcare accessibility, particularly for those affected by diabetes. Growing up in a family of medical professionals, she realised early on the profound impact that one’s birthplace can have on healthcare access. Her advocacy intensified after her marriage to musician Nick Jonas, who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since childhood. Chopra Jonas has taken an active role in raising awareness about diabetes, becoming a board member of Beyond Type 1, a non-profit organisation dedicated to combating misconceptions and promoting early detection of diabetes.

Chopra Jonas has been at the forefront of an educational campaign in India aimed at dispelling myths surrounding diabetes, particularly Type 1, which affects many children and adolescents in the country. She underscores the importance of early diagnosis by sharing informative content and using her social media platforms to reach millions. The message is clear: diabetes does not have to be a barrier to living a fulfilling life. Commenting on her work, Chopra Jonas stated, “You can handle and live with this condition—and actually thrive with it.”

Alongside Bhatt and Chopra Jonas, the list features prominent figures like Harrison Ford, Idris Elba, Russell Westbrook, and Ewan McGregor, who are each playing crucial roles in advancing societal change through their respective platforms. National Geographic’s initiative aims to celebrate and highlight the contributions of these leaders, encouraging a global movement towards imaginative solutions for the pressing challenges faced today.

The recognition of individuals like Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra Jonas underscores the potential of celebrity influence in addressing urgent societal issues, illustrating how advocacy can intertwine with personal journeys to create meaningful change.
