2026 Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Pickup and Toyota Hilux Comparison

Mahindra has officially launched the Scorpio Lifestyler pickup, which shares its platform with the Scorpio N SUV. Designed to give a lifestyle appeal, the new model presents bold styling and an imposing presence. It comes at a time when the Toyota Hilux has also debuted in its ninth generation, inviting comparisons between these two lifestyle pickups.

Both pickups exude a muscular appearance. The front-end design of the Scorpio Lifestyler includes squared LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, a prominent grille adorned with chrome, and a robust bumper that integrates vertically placed fog lights. In contrast, the Toyota Hilux opts for a sleeker look with narrow LED headlamps, a central Toyota insignia, and an expansive honeycomb-pattern grille complemented by a sculpted bumper featuring air vents and silver accents.

When viewed from the side, the Scorpio Lifestyler appears somewhat smaller than the Hilux. Both models feature a dual-cab design with ample cargo space, accompanied by alloy wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres. The Scorpio Lifestyler includes 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Hilux sports 17-inch versions. Additionally, the window line of both vehicles rises towards the rear; however, the Scorpio features chrome trim.

At the rear, the Scorpio Lifestyler is characterized by a flat tailgate embossed with Mahindra branding, C-shaped LED taillights, and body-coloured door handles. Similarly, the Hilux comes equipped with C-shaped LED taillights and features Toyota branding on the tailgate.

In terms of colour offerings, the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler is available in three shades, while the Toyota Hilux offers a broader palette of six colours.

Interior visuals of the Scorpio Lifestyler suggest a modern cabin featuring a large portrait-oriented infotainment screen, a dual-tone dashboard with gloss-black accents, and a four-spoke steering wheel loaded with controls. On the other hand, the Hilux maintains its rugged design ethos within the cabin, equipped with a sizeable infotainment system and manual climate control, enhancing its practical functionality.

Utility-wise, the Scorpio Lifestyler is projected to inherit numerous features from its platform counterpart, potentially offering advanced functionalities in comparison to the Hilux. Initial sketches indicate a portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a digital driver’s display, wireless charging capabilities, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system, a single-pane sunroof, and auto-dimming interior mirror. In contrast, the Hilux’s feature set includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen equipped with similar wireless functionality, but generally leans towards more fundamental elements.

Safety is another crucial aspect where the Scorpio Lifestyler is expected to outshine. Anticipated features include Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, a 540-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, six airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and hill hold assist. Meanwhile, the safety features in the Hilux comprise seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, and a rear view camera.

Powertrain options for the Scorpio Lifestyler may exceed those of the Hilux. The Hilux is currently powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine along with a 2.8-litre diesel engine featuring mild hybrid technology. The Scorpio Lifestyler may include a wider range of options, possibly built on its platform.

Pricing for the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler is expected to start at approximately Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the Toyota Hilux begins its range at Rs 31.99 lakh and can ascend to Rs 36.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Furthermore, the Scorpio Lifestyler competes against the Isuzu V-Cross.

The Scorpio Lifestyler aims to set a new trend within the lifestyle pickup segment, akin to the impression left by the Hilux. In summary, the Scorpio Lifestyler boasts a more contemporary aesthetic, whilst the Hilux maintains a steadfast ruggedness with its design and functionality.
