Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reaches Cannes 2025 with daughter Aaradhya, ending speculation over her appearance at the film festival as a L’Oréal Paris ambassador.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of India’s most internationally recognised film personalities, arrived at Nice Airport on Tuesday ahead of her scheduled appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. She was seen accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, who has often joined her mother at the annual event in previous years.

Their arrival was greeted warmly, with video footage showing a man presenting a gift to the actor at the airport, followed by the pair exiting together. The footage has been widely circulated on social media, particularly by fan pages dedicated to the actor.

Rai Bachchan’s attendance at Cannes had been the subject of speculation in recent days, after a video of her and her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan, dancing at a private wedding function in Mumbai led to questions about whether she would make the trip to France this year. Her appearance at Nice Airport puts those rumours to rest.

Rai Bachchan is attending Cannes 2025 as a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. This marks the brand’s 28th consecutive year at the festival, which celebrates cinema from around the world. According to reports, she is expected to walk the red carpet on 21 and 22 May.

A regular presence at Cannes, Rai Bachchan made her debut at the film festival in 2002 for the premiere of Devdas, in which she starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Her appearances have since become a highly anticipated part of the festival, noted both for their glamour and media attention.

In an earlier interview with Indian media outlet Film Companion, Rai Bachchan spoke about her daughter’s comfort and familiarity with Cannes. “It is really about just being together. It’s familiar to her—she knows everybody here. It is really about reuniting with friends,” she said. She added that Aaradhya enjoys the atmosphere and understands that it is “really about the world of cinema.”

Rai Bachchan will be part of a prominent group of global ambassadors representing L’Oréal Paris at Cannes this year. Other ambassadors include American actors Viola Davis, Eva Longoria, and Andie MacDowell, British actor Simone Ashley, and French singer Yseult.

Context:
The Cannes Film Festival, held annually in the French Riviera city of Cannes, is one of the most prestigious film events in the world. It provides a platform for new cinema across various genres and regions, with awards such as the Palme d'Or recognising exceptional achievements in filmmaking.

Rai Bachchan’s consistent presence at Cannes over more than two decades has established her as a significant cultural figure at the festival, often bridging Indian cinema with global audiences. She is one of the few Indian celebrities to have maintained such a long-standing association with the event.

This year’s festival includes the screening of Homebound, a film produced by Indian filmmaker Karan Johar and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. The film is being presented in the Un Certain Regard section, a segment of the festival that showcases original and daring works from around the world. Johar, speaking at the Bharat Pavilion in Cannes, referred to Rai Bachchan as “literally the queen of Cannes”, underscoring her enduring appeal on the international stage.

As anticipation builds for her red carpet appearance, fans around the world await to see what the actor—renowned for her sartorial choices—will showcase this year.
