India-Chile ties set to get a boost with President Gabriel Boric Font’s visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font meet on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 19, 2025.
India’s relations with Chile have traditionally been warm and friendly
Bilateral ties between India and Chile are set to get a boost during President Gabriel Boric Font’s state visit to India from 1-5 April 1-5, 2025. This will be his first visit to India in his capacity as President. The visit is significant as Chile is an important partner for India in the Latin American region.

The forthcoming State Visit of President Boric will provide an opportunity for the leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties, as well as to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday (March 27, 2025) as it announced the visit.

The Chilean President will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior officials, business associations, media and prominent Chileans involved in the India-Chile cultural connect. He will visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in addition to New Delhi before returning to Chile on April 5, 2025.

According to the official schedule, President Boric will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 1, 2025. Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary. During his visit, President Boric will also hold discussions with President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour.

India’s relations with Chile have traditionally been warm and friendly. Chile was the only country in the Latin America Caribbean (LAC) region to send a Special Envoy to India’s Independence Day celebrations in 1947.

“The two countries have commonality of views on several international issues including UNSC reforms, climate change, renewable energy and terrorism. Chile is also an important trading partner for India in the LAC region,” the MEA pointed out.

It may be recalled that Prime Minister Modi and President Boric met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 19, 2024. Their conversation focused on strengthening collaboration in the pharmaceuticals, technology, and space sectors.
