India’s development partnerships with the Latin Americas and Caribbean region will continue to deliver, says EAM Jaishankar.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has advocated greater collaboration between India and countries in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region in sectors like health, food, and energy security. Addressing the 10th CII-India LAC Conclave in New Delhi on Thursday (March 20, 2025), he also highlighted the potential when it comes to mining, infrastructure and defence.

At the same time, EAM Jaishankar emphasized that India’s development partnerships with the Latin Americas and Caribbean region will continue to deliver.

“Addressed the 10th CII-India LAC Conclave today in New Delhi.

Highlighted potential for collaboration in health, food and energy security. 

Also emphasised importance of mining, infrastructure and defence as domains to be further explored.

Innovation and startups can help build more bridges. Our development partnerships with the LAC region will continue to deliver,” EAM Jaishankar posted on social media platform X.

Earlier, addressing the conclave on Wednesday (March 19, 2025), Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called for ambitious targets, aiming to double trade volumes in the next five years. He turned the focus on sectors like engineering, healthcare, renewable energy, critical minerals, tourism, agriculture, gems and jewelry, and digital services. 

The Commerce and Industry Minister also emphasized the need for collaboration in renewable energy, highlighting the LAC region’s vast lithium reserves and proposing joint ventures in lithium processing, battery manufacturing, and electric mobility. He pointed to India-Brazil cooperation in biofuels and the potential for ethanol-powered vehicles. Agriculture and food security were also identified as crucial areas of partnership.

The 10th CII India-LAC Business Conclave was organised in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

The Conclave also featured sessions dedicated to fostering cooperation with key regional economic integrations:
  • Central American Integration System (SICA)
  • The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM)
  • Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR)
  • Pacific Alliance
