India has earlier provided humanitarian assistance to African, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Island countries.
India has reaffirmed its commitment to the Global South by sending humanitarian assistance to Honduras in the wake of the recent Tropical Storm Sara. The 26-ton consignment to the Latin American nation comprises medical and surgical supplies in addition to blankets and sleeping mats.

“A reliable partner for the Global South.

India dispatched humanitarian assistance of 26 tons to Honduras in the wake of the recent Tropical storm SARA. 

The consignment comprising medical supplies & disaster relief material including surgical supplies, glucometers, oximeters, gloves, syringes & IV fluids, blankets, sleeping mats and hygiene kits has departed from India,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on social media platform X on Sunday (February 23, 2025).

This comes weeks after India provided humanitarian assistance to Sao Tome and Principe in central Africa last month to help strengthen its public health services. The consignment, sent on January 18, 2025, included life-saving and essential medicines including insulin, blood glucose monitors and strips, human albumin, ORS.

India also extended assistance of USD 500,000 on January 2, 2025 to support relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Vanuatu after a devastating earthquake near the coast in the South Pacific Ocean caused major destruction and loss of life.

Here's a look at some more recent instances.

On December 20, 2024, India dispatched a consignment of 1000 metric tonnes of rice as part of its humanitarian assistance to Lesotho. This was meant to help in addressing food security and nutritional requirements of the people of the landlocked African country. India had earlier dispatched similar consignments to mitigate the devastating effect of food shortages caused by famine and other acts of nature in the sub-Saharan African nation.

In September 2024, the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided humanitarian aid to Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe to help the African nations address the food deficit which has occurred due to severe drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon.

The same month, India launched Operation Sadbhav to provide humanitarian assistance to Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam to help the Southeast Asian countries affected by Typhoon Yagi. India was among the first responders in providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to impacted countries. 

The humanitarian assistance dispatched to various countries across the world in recent years underscores India’s commitment towards helping countries when it comes to battling natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and droughts.
