Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a host of world leaders during the G20 Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, emphasising India's role in fostering global cooperation. The meetings occurred on the sidelines of the two-day summit on November 18-19, 2024.

Key Bilateral Meetings
PM Modi's schedule included meetings with prominent leaders such as outgoing US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Each interaction highlighted efforts to deepen bilateral relations and address shared global challenges.

PM Modi described his interaction with President Biden as "always a delight." Their discussion underlined the importance of ongoing collaboration in technology, defense, and global security. The camaraderie between the leaders was evident, with images capturing their handshake making rounds on social media.

In his meeting with President Macron, PM Modi discussed enhancing cooperation in energy, space, and artificial intelligence. Modi congratulated Macron on hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris earlier this year. President Macron shared a video of the meeting, stating they reviewed progress on key initiatives launched during his state visit to India in January.

With Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Modi announced the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29. This agreement focuses on expanding ties in trade, technology, defense, and clean energy. Meloni lauded the collaboration, emphasizing the plan's role in advancing the India-Italy strategic partnership.

Collaborations Across Continents
PM Modi engaged with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store, Portuguese PM Luis Montenegro, Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, and leaders from Indonesia and South Korea.

Prime Minister Modi and PM Starmer discussed deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with an emphasis on finalizing a Free Trade Agreement. Technology, green energy, and cultural exchanges also featured prominently in their dialogue.

PM Modi met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, thanking him for hosting the G20 Summit. They discussed enhancing the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership in areas like agriculture, tourism, biofuels, and defense. Prime Minister Modi praised Brazil's initiative to establish the Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger, expressing India's support for sustainable development and governance reforms.

Global and Regional Priorities
The G20 Summit provided an opportunity for PM Modi to advocate for the interests of the Global South. Addressing issues like the food, fuel, and fertilizer crisis, Modi emphasized India's G20 theme, "One Earth, One Family, One Future," as a guiding principle for addressing global challenges.

The Brazil visit was part of Prime Minister Modi's three-nation tour, which included stops in Nigeria and Guyana. In Nigeria, PM Modi held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and engaged with the Indian diaspora.

After the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Modi departed for Guyana, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in over 50 years. The visit aims to strengthen India-Guyana ties, focusing on trade, energy, and cultural collaboration.

As India transitions out of its G20 presidency, the focus remains on carrying forward the momentum established during the New Delhi Summit in 2023. PM Modi's active participation in Brazil underscores India's commitment to global cooperation, strategic alliances, and addressing the concerns of the Global South.
