External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who met for the 15th India - Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue in Canberra on Tuesday (November 5, 2024), have expressed satisfaction at the growth in bilateral ties.
The India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was growing steadily, EAM Jaishankar said, adding that this was reflected in stronger political ties, robust defence & security cooperation, and expanded trade.
“Concluded the 15th India - Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with FM @SenatorWong in Canberra today. Our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is growing steadily. Reflected in stronger political ties, robust defence & security cooperation, expanded trade, greater mobility and deeper educational linkages. Discussed our respective neighbourhoods, Indo - Pacific, West Asia, Ukraine and the global strategic scenario,” EAM Jaishankar posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Foreign Minister Wong pointed out that the Australia-India partnership was central to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the two nations’ shared region. She also highlighted that the Australian government was funding 6 impressive projects under the Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership and announced that they Australia would send a First Nations Business Mission to India for the first time next year.
She shared key points from their discussions on X, saying, “Australia and India's partnership is central to the peace, stability and prosperity of our shared region. Today, I welcomed my good friend @DrSJaishankar to Canberra for the 15th Australia-India Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue.
We’re cooperating in important sectors including science and technology, clean energy, agriculture, education and skills, and tourism. Today, I announced the Albanese Government is funding 6 impressive projects under the Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership”.
Announcing that Australia would send a First Nations Business Mission to India for the first time next year, she said it will support new commercial partnerships for First Nations businesses looking to engage with India and will promote First Nation businesses to new markets overseas.

While in Canberra, he also met Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles to discuss the bilateral relationship and share views on the Indo-Pacific and regional developments.
“Pleased to meet DPM & Defence Minister @RichardMarlesMP today. Spoke about the strong momentum in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Shared perspectives on Indo - Pacific and regional developments,” he said on X.
His engagements on Monday (November 4, 2024) included a visit to Australia’s Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC) warehouse for HADR supplies to the Pacific. He described disaster relief in the Indo - Pacific as an emerging element of India-Australia bilateral ties and expressed appreciation for Australia’s support for the delivery of relief material from India to Papua New Guinea in June 2024. He highlighted HADR as an important element of QUAD endeavours.
Earlier, EAM Jaishankar formally inaugurated the new Consulate General of India in Brisbane. “Delighted to formally inaugurate new Consulate General of India in Brisbane today. It will contribute to strengthening India’s ties with Queensland state, promoting trade, fostering educational linkages and serving the diaspora. Thank H.E Dr. Jeannette Young, Governor of Queensland and Ministers @Ros_Bates_MP and @FionaSimpsonMP for joining the inauguration ceremony,” he said on X.
While in Brisbane, EAM Jaishankar offered his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Roma Street Parklands and interacted with members of the Indian community where he spoke about the strong India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
