India ready to provide all support to bring about peace in Ukraine, says PM Modi as he meets President Putin in Kazan

India believes all disputes should be resolved peacefully, says PM Modi
India is ready to provide all the support that is needed to bring about peace in Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said as he met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, Russia on Tuesday (October 22, 2024).
Pointing out that the two leaders have been in constant touch regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi stated that all disputes should be resolved peacefully. India fully supports efforts to restore peace and stability as soon as possible, he added.
The two leaders met for bilateral talks shortly after Prime Minister Modi arrived in Kazan to attend the 16th BRICS summit. “Landed in Kazan for the BRICS Summit. This is an important Summit, and the discussions here will contribute to a better planet,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X.
He later shared information about the meeting in a separate X post. “Had an excellent meeting with President Putin. The bond between India and Russia is deep-rooted. Our talks focussed on how to add even more vigour to our bilateral partnership across diverse sectors” Prime Minister Modi said.
This is the second meeting between the two leaders in recent months. They also met in July, when Prime Minister Modi visited Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
In his introductory remarks during their meeting, Prime Minister Modi stated, "We have been in constant touch regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. As I have said earlier, we believe disputes should only be resolved peacefully. We fully support efforts to restore peace and stability as soon as possible”.
“All our efforts prioritise humanity. India stands ready to provide all the support that is required for peace,” Prime Minister Modi stated.
Congratulating President Putin for the successful presidency of BRICS, Prime Minister Modi said the bloc had created a unique identity for itself over the past 15 years. Many countries now want to join BRICS, he remarked.
“I am truly pleased to visit the beautiful city of Kazan for the BRICS Summit. India has deep, historical ties with this city, and the opening of India's new consulate here will further strengthen those connections," Prime Minister Modi said. He pointed out that his two visits to Russia in the last three months reflect the close coordination and deep friendship between India and Russia. The Annual Summit in July strengthened bilateral cooperation in all spheres, he added.
During their discussions on July 9, 2024, Prime Minister Modi and President Putin discussed ways to diversify bilateral cooperation across sectors like trade and commerce, defence and security, technology, and innovation.
Briefing the media after the summit, Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said the talks also covered regional and global developments. “The major thrust of the discussion was on economic engagement, including how the India-Russia partnership can give a fillip to Make in India and other manufacturing partnerships,” the Foreign Secretary noted.
“Building upon the Annual Summit held in July 2024 in Moscow, my visit to Kazan will further reinforce the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia,” Prime Minister Modi said in his departure statement in New Delhi on Tuesday.
