India bolsters global governance through inaugural leadership programme for Latin America and the Caribbean

In a landmark initiative to foster global governance, the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has launched the first Advanced Leadership Development Program on Public Policy and Governance tailored specifically for participants from Latin America and the Caribbean. This pioneering two-week program, running from September 2 to September 13, 2024, includes 22 civil servants from 10 diverse nations including Argentina, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Suriname.
The program kicked off with an engaging session led by V Srinivas, Secretary DARPG and Director General of NCGG, who highlighted the shared governance challenges and opportunities between India and the Latin American countries. The curriculum is designed to share India’s governance models which emphasize "Maximum Governance – Minimum Government", and includes innovative strategies such as Digital India, PM Gatishakti, and procurement reforms through Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
A key focus of the discussions was on the "Panch Pran of Amrit Kaal", a set of principles aimed at eradicating colonial legacies and fostering a sense of pride and duty among citizens towards achieving a developed India by 2047. The program also seeks to showcase India's strides in creating next-generation infrastructure, world-class manufacturing capabilities, cutting-edge innovation, and new-age technology applications.
Participants will delve into a wide range of topics such as Aadhaar's role in governance, Skill India initiatives, vigilance administration, leadership dynamics, fiscal and monetary policies, and more. Special emphasis will be placed on sustainable development goals, Indian culture and sustainable tourism, digital economy, urban governance, food security, holistic healthcare, and disaster management.
The program is not just academic; it includes practical study tours to significant sites like the Forest Research Institute, District Administration in Gautam Buddha Nagar, International Solar Alliance, National Institute of Solar Energy, and the iconic Taj Mahal. These visits are designed to provide hands-on learning experiences that complement the theoretical knowledge imparted in the classroom.
This initiative is supported by a robust team from NCGG, including Himanshi Rastogi, the course coordinator, along with associate coordinators and consultants who are instrumental in delivering this comprehensive governance program. The effort underscores India's commitment to enhancing administrative capabilities not just domestically but among its international partners as well, fostering a collaborative approach to tackle global challenges through enhanced public policy and governance frameworks.
