Strengthening bilateral ties: Indian Naval Ship Tabar reaches Alexandria, Egypt
INS Tabar arrives in Alexandria, Egypt for a goodwill visit from June 27-30, 2024.
The visit reaffirms India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Egypt
As part of her ongoing deployment to Africa and Europe, the Indian Navy's frontline frigate, INS Tabar, has arrived at the historic port city of Alexandria, Egypt, for a goodwill visit from June 27 to 30, 2024. This visit is another milestone in the long-standing relationship between India and Egypt.

India and Egypt have shared a rich legacy of cultural relations and economic ties that date back to ancient times. In modern times, the bilateral relationship between the two countries has grown stronger, encompassing various sectors, including defense and maritime cooperation.

"The visit of Indian Naval Ship Tabar to Alexandria is intended to reaffirm India's commitment to deepening the bilateral ties with Egypt as also enhancing various aspects of maritime security," the Ministry of Defence said.

INS Tabar is a stealth frigate built for the Indian Navy in Russia. Commanded by Captain MR Harish, the ship boasts a complement of 280 personnel and is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors. As one of the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy, INS Tabar is based in Mumbai and is part of the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command.

During its three-day stay in Alexandria, the crew of INS Tabar will engage in a series of professional interactions with the Egyptian Navy, alongside various social engagements. These activities are designed to strengthen the commonalities in procedures followed by the two navies and to enhance their interoperability for combined operations against common maritime threats.

Following the port visit, the two navies will consolidate their harbor exercises through a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea, further cementing their cooperation and operational synergy.
