Since 2003, India has launched over 551 High Impact Community Development Projects across various sectors in Nepal
In a significant development in bilateral cooperation, the foundation stone for the new Shree Galainath Secondary School building was ceremoniously laid in Shailyashikhar Municipality, Darchula District, Nepal. This event marks a milestone in the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, with the Government of India financing the initiative at a cost of NRs. 27.30 million.

The ceremony saw the presence of notable figures including Bijay Singh Dhami, Mayor of Shailyashikhar Municipality, and Prashant Kumar Sona, Second Secretary, Embassy of India in Kathmandu.

Comprehensive Development through Educational Infrastructure

The new school will feature a two-storey building equipped with modern facilities including a dedicated toilet block, an office block, and contemporary furniture, set to transform the educational landscape in the municipality. This project is classified as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), which is part of a larger agreement between the governments of India and Nepal aimed at enhancing educational facilities and standards in the region.

During the foundation stone laying ceremony, Mayor Dhami acknowledged the enduring support of the Indian government in fostering development in Nepal’s priority sectors. This project is a prime example of the strong development partnership between India and Nepal, focusing on significant improvements in educational facilities and infrastructure.

Since 2003, India has launched over 551 HICDPs across various sectors in Nepal, successfully completing 489 of these projects. These initiatives include 40 projects within the Sudurpashchim Province, with Darchula itself hosting 10 significant projects. In addition, the Indian government has generously donated 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various Nepali health posts and educational institutions on notable occasions such as India’s Independence Day and Republic Day. Of these, Darchula has benefited from eight ambulances and two school buses, significantly enhancing local healthcare and education transport facilities.

The construction of the new school building at Shree Galainath Secondary School is set to provide a major boost to educational facilities in the area. With improved infrastructure, students will enjoy a better learning environment which is conducive to higher educational standards and overall academic achievement. This initiative is also expected to play a crucial role in the broader development of the educational sector within the region, contributing positively to community upliftment.

The ongoing implementation of HICDPs underlines the continuous support of the Government of India in assisting the Government of Nepal in its developmental efforts, particularly in the education sector. This collaboration reflects the multi-faceted and deep-rooted relationship between the two neighbouring countries, showcasing a shared commitment to improving the lives of the Nepalese people through strategic development projects.
