The inaugural edition of the India-Saudi Arabia Joint Military Exercise ‘Sada Tanseeq’ commenced on January 29, 2024, at Mahajan, Rajasthan. This exercise, set to run until February 10, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the deepening military cooperation between the two nations.

The Saudi Arabian contingent, represented by the Royal Saudi Land Forces, comprises 45 personnel. Similarly, the Indian Army's contingent of an equal 45 personnel, is represented by a Battalion from the Brigade of the Guards (Mechanized Infantry). This cooperative exercise exemplifies the engaging strategic collaboration and aligned security objectives between India and Saudi Arabia.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Defence, the primary aim of Exercise 'Sada Tanseeq' is to train troops for joint operations in semi-desert terrain, aligning with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. It focuses on enhancing interoperability, shared tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting operations in sub-conventional domains. This initiative is a large step towards developing mutual understanding and camaraderie among the troops.

Key activities of the exercise include the establishment of Mobile Vehicle Check Posts, Cordon & Search Operations, House Intervention Drills, Reflex Shooting, Slithering, and Sniper Firing. These activities are designed to refine and strengthen the military capabilities of both forces in various aspects of modern warfare.

Reflecting on past collaborative efforts, the exercise builds on the success of ‘Exercise Al-Mohad Al-Hindi’, a naval exercise that emphasized maritime security through tactical manoeuvres and search and rescue operations. ‘Sada Tanseeq’ extends this cooperation to land forces, showcasing the versatile nature of India and Saudi Arabia's defence partnership.

The exercise not only serves as a platform for sharing best practices but also for emulating a strong bond and mutual respect between the two contingents.

‘Sada Tanseeq’ represents a blend of strategic alignment and operational excellence, setting a precedent for future military collaborations between India and Saudi Arabia.
