The UNGA adopted a resolution proclaiming June 21 as International Day of Yoga in December 2014
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the celebrations on International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on June 21, 2023 while commencing his official state visit to the US.

The UN General Assembly had adopted a resolution proclaiming June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in December 2014.

Replying to a tweet by UN General Assembly President Csaba Korosi, Prime Minister Modi tweeted on Friday (June 16, 2023), “Looking forward to seeing you at the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the UNHQ. Your participation makes the programme even more special".

'I am looking forward to participating in the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations @UN with Prime Minister @NarendraModi at the UNHQ North Lawn next week," the UNGA President had tweeted earlier.

Prime Minister Modi is visiting the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden, President of USA and First Lady Jill Biden, Prime Minister will pay an Official State Visit to USA.

From New York, Prime Minister Modi willl travel to Washington D.C., where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22, and meet President Biden to continue their high-level dialogue. President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a State Dinner in honour of the Prime Minister the same evening, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Prime Minister Modi will address a Joint Sitting of the US Congress the same day at the invitation of Congressional Leaders, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer. On June 23, Prime Minister Modi will be jointly hosted at a luncheon by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

In addition to the official engagements, Prime Minister is scheduled to have several curated interactions with leading CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora, the MEA said.

According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi will subsequently travel to Cairo to pay a State Visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt from June 24-25, 2023. The visit is at invitation of President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi, which he extended in January 2023 when he graced India's Republic Day celebrations as the ‘Chief Guest’. This will be Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Egypt.

Apart from his talks with President Sisi, Prime Minister is likely to interact with senior dignitaries from the Egyptian Government, some prominent Egyptian personalities, as well as the Indian community in Egypt.

Relations between India and Egypt are based on ancient trade and economic linkages as well as cultural and deep-rooted people-to-people ties. During the State Visit of President Sisi in January 2023, it was agreed to elevate the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’, the MEA noted.
