In another significant step towards the strengthening of educational infrastructure in Nepal, the foundation stone has been laid for a school in Sankhuwasabha District, under the auspices of the Nepal-India Development Cooperation initiative.
The foundation stone ceremony for the Shree Diding Basic School in Chichila Rural Municipality was held on Monday (April 8, 2024). The event was attended by Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Chairman of Chichila Rural Municipality, and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, alongside a gathering of political representatives, social workers, educators, and community members.
Enhancing Educational Infrastructure
The project, funded by the Government of India with a tendered cost of NRs.40.29 million, envisages the construction of a double-storied academic and administrative block, equipped with modern facilities to enhance the learning environment. This initiative is part of the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP), aimed at fostering significant societal advancements through targeted infrastructure projects.
This project underscores the robust partnership between India and Nepal, focusing on crucial sectors like education. The collaborative effort is expected to not only improve educational facilities but also contribute to the overall development of the region. Sherpa lauded the enduring support of India in uplifting the socio-economic standards in Nepal, highlighting the impact of such projects on community development.
The new building at Shree Diding Basic School will provide superior educational opportunities, to create an environment conducive to learning and growth. This initiative is a part of India’s broader strategy to aid in the educational sector of Nepal, thereby strengthening the bilateral ties and promoting the welfare of the Nepalese populace.
Since 2003, India has launched over 550 HICDPs in Nepal, completing 488 projects across various sectors, including health, education, and public utilities, with an overarching aim to strengthen grassroots infrastructure. The ongoing commitment has seen India financing projects totalling approximately NPR 1220 crore (INR 762 crore), sustaining the endeavour to enhance the quality of life across Nepalese communities.
