The meeting will discuss sustainable agriculture, digital technologies, and food security
Hyderabad is set to become the focal point of global discussions on agriculture as it hosts the G20 Agriculture Ministerial meeting from June 15 to 17, 2023.
During this crucial three-day event, almost 200 delegates—including agricultural ministers from various nations and director generals from international organizations—will come together to discuss agriculture and its related topics.
The ministerial meeting, organized by the Agriculture Working Group (AWG), will witness active participation from G20 member countries, invited countries, and international organizations. It offers a priceless chance for leaders and specialists from across the world to communicate, share ideas, and come up with plans to deal with pressing agricultural problems.
The meeting's opening day will begin with a display exhibiting India's accomplishments in agriculture and related fields. The exhibition will be officially opened by Kailash Choudhary, Minister of State, MoA&FW, setting the tone for the occasion. Following this, the Agriculture Deputies Meeting (ADM) will take place, providing a platform for fruitful discussions and decision-making.
Two interesting side events are also scheduled for the first day. The first conference, with the theme "Managing Agribusiness for Profit, People, and Planet," will bring together leading Indian agricultural businesses, start-ups, and government organizations active in supporting agri-business ventures. The second event, "Connecting the Digitally Disconnected: Harnessing the Power of Digital Technologies in Agriculture," will explore the potential of digital technologies in revolutionizing the agricultural sector.
On the second day of the meeting, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will welcome the participating ministers and heads of delegation. He will also participate in conversations that center on important issues, including sustainable agriculture for dietary needs and food security. Additionally, a high-level ministerial discussion will take place, delving into women-led agriculture, sustainable biodiversity, and climate solutions.
On the last day, the ministers will meet to endorse the G20, Indian Presidency, and Agricultural Working Group decisions. This significant move will lay the groundwork for further initiatives and partnerships to promote sustainable agriculture practices and address issues related to global food security.
The delegates will travel on a technical tour to Hyderabad's ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), where they will gain even more insight into cutting-edge agricultural techniques.
