EAM Jaishankar and Ambassador Garcetti discussed the close India-US bilateral relationship
Meeting recently-appointed US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Thursday (May 25, 2023) External Affairs Minister S Jaishanka expressed confidence that the India-US relationship will "continue to grow from strength to strength ".

A former Los Angeles mayor, Garcetti was sworn in as the new US Ambassador to India on March 24 this year.

The meeting with Ambassador Garcetti came days after India participated in the Quad Leaders' Meeting along with the US, Japan, and Australia on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

The focus of the discussions revolved around the progress achieved in the India-US relationship, particularly in the past decade. Jaishankar and Garcetti also exchanged views on the recent Quad Summit, which is the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue involving India, the US, Japan, and Australia.

In a tweet, Jaishankar expressed his delight in welcoming Ambassador Eric Garcetti and highlighted the significance of their meeting.

He wrote, "Great to welcome Ambassador Eric Garcetti of the United States. Discussed the enormous progress in our relationship, especially over the last decade. Exchanged views on the recent Quad Summit. Confident that India-US ties will continue to grow from strength to strength."

During the Quad Leaders' Meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese all reaffirmed their support for a free and open Indo-Pacific region, particularly in light of China's growing aggressiveness in the region.
