The 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting, held in Siliguri, Darjeeling district, from April 1–4, 2023, has become a huge success as all attending nations agreed that Green Tourism should take priority over all other concerns.

The working group meeting was attended by 56 Delegates from 17 Member Countries, 8 Invitee Countries, and 4 International Organizations. In addition, the Ambassadors of seven G20 countries were also present, including Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, Indonesia, and Korea.

During the first session of the Tourism Working Group meeting, presentations were made by UNEP on ‘Travel for LiFE’ and by UNWTO on ‘1st Draft Outcome Document – GOA Roadmap. The G20 Member nations, Invitee nations, and international organizations provided feedback on the first draft of the GOA Roadmap. The GOA Roadmap will be adopted during the Tourism Ministerial meeting at Goa in June 2023.

The working group meeting featured presentations on the five goals of green tourism, digitalization, skills, tourism MSMEs, and destination management from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Indonesia, and Italy, respectively. Furthermore, each key topic was thoroughly discussed throughout the session.

Two Adventure Tourism-related side events were organized in addition to the Working Group Meetings. The first conference, titled "Adventure Tourism as a Vehicle for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals," highlighted the potential of adventure tourism on India's and the North East Region's tourist landscapes.

The second conference, entitled "Tourism in Mission Mode: Advantage Adventure Tourism," concentrated on Best Practices, National Strategy of Adventure Tourism, India as an Adventure Destination, and Developing Adventure Tourism in the Northeast States of India.

Furthermore, international delegates were provided with an immersive experience of Moonlight Tea plucking, where they were joined by local tea pickers and musicians performing traditional instruments. They also went to the historic Makaibari Tea Factory to see how tea is processed from "field to factory."

Later on, a trip on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Darjeeling Himalayan Railways marked the completion of the Working Group Conference. The journey began at Ghum Station, the highest railroad station in India. The Sainik Board had planned a spectacular Khukuri Dance at Batasia Loop, the train's first stop. The train ride ended at Darjeeling Station.

The delegates also took part in DIY activities at the State Government's Art and Craft Market, where they had a "hands-on" introduction to local handicrafts and craftsmen’s creations while learning about the value of community involvement.
