The meeting covered various topics related to women empowerment and upliftment
India highlighted the five priority areas under its G20 presidency at the two-day Women-20 (W-20) Inception Meet held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

Nearly 150 female dignitaries from members, guests, and special invitee nations attended the meeting which began on Monday.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Smriti Zubin Irani addressed the delegates at the W20 inaugural ceremony on Monday (February 27, 2023). She discussed the five priority areas of the W20 under India's Presidency, including bridging the digital divide, education and skill development, and women and girls as changemakers in climate resilience action.

The Union WCD Minister welcomed the W-20 member delegates from different regions of the world, saying that the leadership and contributions of W20 are treasured since their arrival signifies the advent of the answer that women throughout the world are seeking.

She expressed the expectation that the coming together of the brightest brains from the W 20 may offer advice on utilizing best practices from each nation to develop more on women-led companies, women in agricultural communities, needs of women in the health sector, and women in education and particularly skilling.

She also advocated using technology to promote equity. She asked the W-20 participants to strategize ways to promote the framework for women's involvement with governments and stakeholder groups throughout the globe. The Union Minister said that 1.4 million of the 3 million women who hold local political office worldwide are from India.

India's G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Bhagwat Karad, MoS Railways Raosaheb Danve Patil, legislators Atul Save and Sandipanrao Bhumre, the founding chair of the W20 Gulden Turktan, W-20 Chair Sandhya Purecha, and the W-20 Chief were also present at the ceremony.

Proving a context for the discussions, Kant said on Monday that having women emerge as leaders of development is a vital priority as women and children are the most suffering from poverty. He continued by saying that the W20 is seen as crucial for fostering women's leadership potential, which is a crucial long-term investment for the world economy.

The W-20 Inception Meet's Day 1 sessions covered a variety of topics, including "Empowering Women in Nano, Micro, and Startup Enterprises," "Role of Women as Changemakers in Climate Resilience Action," "Creating Enabling Ecosystem for Women Leaders at Grassroots," "Improving Access Through Infrastructure & Skill to bridge Gender Digital Divide," and "Creating Pathways for Women through Education & Skill." A special session on "Women-led Development in India" was also held.

Day 2 of the inception meeting began on Tuesday with a special session on the subject of "Breaking the Barriers: The Tales of Unconventional Women," carrying on the deliberations from Day 1.

Rajya Sabha member Sonal Mansingh welcomed the foreign delegates and gave the opening comments before bending her head in "Namaskara," which is a sign of the Hindu belief that there is a god inside each and every one of us. She and Purecha released the coffee table book "Avvaya," which celebrates the contribution of women to the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar heritage city.

Shazia Khan, Disha Amrith, Tavishi Singh, and Swati Bhandari, strong women from the Indian Navy, participated in the session as well. The Navy Welfare and Wellness Association spokesperson, Deepa Bhat Nair, went into more detail about the contributions made by Navy spouses to the development of Indian society and the emancipation of women via their efforts.

The Jammu & Kashmiri Rural Livelihood Mission's Zubedia Bibi explained how the administration's program under the Union Government has enabled women in rural regions to become economically independent and support their families.

The sixth session of the W-20 Inception Meet, dubbed "Enablers of Women-Led Development: Policy and Legal Framework," concentrated on the function of policy and legal framework as facilitators of women-led development and economic empowerment.

The session's moderator, Michelle Silverthon, the founder and chief executive officer of Inclusion Nation, USA, urged the panelists to discuss their experiences working in their specialized industries. We all must work together and leave no one behind, Silverthon remarked as she related her own experience demonstrating the power of togetherness.

Among the panelists for this discussion were Katherina Miller, the founder of the MLK Law Group in Spain, Susan Jane Ferguson, the country representative for UN Women in India, Professor Narnia Bohler, an academic and an advocate from South Africa.

They emphasized the significance of legislation and policy changes to encourage a shift in the attitudes and behaviors that have impeded the advancement of women across the world. The Supreme Court of India's Advocate, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, who was also a panelist in this discussion, underlined the significance of political will and urged all women to vote since it is the best method to achieve gender justice.

The W-20 representatives also embarked on a heritage walk this morning, stopping at the world-famous city gates as well as the ancient monuments Bibi Ka Maqbara and Aurangabad Caves. To give the foreign delegates a flavor of Indian culture and customs, cultural events were also planned.
