The 1st G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting will begin on February 24
Bengaluru is hosting two key meetings of the Finance Track under India's G20 presidency from February 22 to 25, 2023. These are the first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting and the second G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) meeting.

The FMCBG meeting, scheduled for February 24-25, will be chaired jointly by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated the two-day FCBD meeting on Wednesday; it is being jointly co-chaired by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Michael D. Patra and Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth.

Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance Ajay Seth and Chief Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance Anantha V Nageswaran briefed the media on Tuesday about the meetings and the expected outcomes.

According to the information provided by them, 72 delegations, including Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G20 member nations, invitee members, and heads of International Organisations, will be attending the FMCBG meeting.

The Indian G20 Presidency has designed the meeting agenda to promote meaningful discussions among the Ministers and Governors on pragmatic and meaningful approaches to address some of the key global economic issues.

The three sessions in this meeting will cover topics such as strengthening multilateral development banks, financing for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable ‘cities of tomorrow’, leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), and issues related to the global economy, global health, and international taxation.

A number of side events have also been planned, including a Ratri Bhoj Par Samvad and cultural programs showcasing India’s diverse cuisines and culture. A special event titled Walk the Talk: Policy in Action is being organized, during which the Ministers and Governors will visit the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to engage with tech innovators and entrepreneurs who are working on affordable and scalable solutions to challenges being faced by G20 member countries.

On the sidelines of the meetings, several excursions have also been planned to allow delegates to enjoy the natural beauty of Karnataka. The meeting is expected to provide a clear mandate for the various workstreams of the G20 Finance Track in 2023.

The G20 FMCBG and FCBD meetings are expected to foster a meaningful exchange of ideas among Ministers and Governors on pragmatic and meaningful approaches to address some of the key global economic issues.
