India hands over 11 development projects, including school buildings and hospitals, to Nepal

To strengthen the bilateral development cooperation, India has handed over 11 projects to the Nepalese provinces of Madhesh Pradesh and Bagmati during the previous week, comprising six in the educational and five in the health sectors.

These sectors are the government of Nepal's top priorities and the Indian initiatives will aid in improving the infrastructure there.

The projects were formally handed over by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava to the concerned authorities of Nepal.

Firstly, the ambassador handed over the Shree Ram Janaki Madhayamik Vidyalaya and Mahendra Genai Memorial Maternity and Child Welfare Hospital to the regional Nepali authorities in Siraha. Later, he handed over the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Shree Narendra Memorial Public Secondary School, and Shree Janata Rameshwor Memorial Secondary School to the local Nepali authorities in Saptari.

The Ambassador later handed over three health posts—Kusheshwar Dumja, Bhuvaneshwari, and Baseshwar—as well as the school buildings for Shree Chandeshwori Secondary School and Shree Bhawani Secondary School in Sindhuli.

Additionally, Nitesh Kumar, the Indian Consul General in Birgunj, delivered the Shree Ram Sakhi Mohit Singh Janta Secondary School to the Nepalese government officials at Sarlahi.

India and Nepal are neighbors and have special links of friendship and collaboration that are defined by an open border and enduring connections of kinship and culture.

The development assistance provided by the Government of India to Nepal is a comprehensive program that focuses on building infrastructure at the community level. As part of this program, a number of projects have been carried out in the fields of infrastructure, health, water resources, education, and rural and community development.

In addition to providing grants, the Government of India has made USD 1.65 billion in Lines of Credit available for infrastructure development, including post-earthquake rebuilding projects.

In December 2022, India had signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the Nepal government for fast-tracking three projects - one each in Education, Health Care and Drinking Water Sectors.

Since 2003, India has taken up over 532 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal and has completed 476 projects in the areas of health, education, drinking water, connectivity, sanitation and creation of other public utilities across all seven provinces of Nepal at the grassroots level.

According to the Indian Embassy in Nepal, the implementation of these projects reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal in upliftment of its people.
