MoS External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi is on her maiden bilateral visit to Greece

India and Greece are exploring deeper cooperation on bilateral as well as international issues. The matter was discussed during a meeting between Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Tuesday.

"Had a very useful interaction with Greek Foreign Minister Mr. @NikosDendias. Exchanged views on further promoting bilateral and international cooperation," MoS Lekhi tweeted.

During the meeting, the two focused on economy and culture, as well as migration and mobility, Dendias tweeted after the meeting, which took place on the margins of an event on Greece-India friendship.

"On the margins of today’s event on Greece - India friendship, organised by SG for Greeks Abroad & Public Diplomacy, I met with #India Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture, @M_Lekhi.

Discussion focused on further strengthening Greece-India rapidly developing relations in many areas, including economy & culture, migration & mobility," Dendias tweeted.

MoS Lekhi is on her maiden bilateral visit to Greece on Monday and Tuesday.

The visiting Indian minister earlier met Secretary General for Greeks Abroad & Public Diplomacy John Chrysoulakis and discussed ideas for further strengthening India-Greece relations.

"Had a productive luncheon meeting with Prof. Emer. John Chrysoulakis, Secretary General for Greeks Abroad & Public Diplomacy and his team. Shared new ideas for further strengthening India-Greece relations," she tweeted.

MoS Lekhi is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community, as well as academics and Indologists. As a part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations, she will also take part in a special yoga program and lay flower tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Athens.

MoS Lekhi’s visit to Greece will enhance the already cordial and amicable ties between the two nations and give room to further investigate potential areas of collaboration, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said on Sunday.

In terms of bilateral ties, India and Greece have a history of being cordial and friendly toward one another. They have always supported one another on matters of fundamental national concern, such as Cyprus and Kashmir.
