India is scheduled to host the Youth20 Summit in August 2023

The first meeting of the Youth20, or Y20, Group under India's G20 presidency will be held in Guwahati, Assam from February 6-8. The meeting is being held in the run up to the Y20 Summit that India will be hosting for the first time.

This gathering in Guwahati is the first of the various meetings to be held on five Y20 themes across India in a run-up to the final Youth-20 Summit in August 2023.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Guwahati meet will focus on the following themes:

  1. Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century skills
  2. Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a way of life
  3. Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an era of No War
  4. Shared Future: Youth in Democracy
  5. Governance and Health, Wellbeing &Sports: Agenda for Youth.

More than 250 delegates from across the world are expected to participate in the 3-day event in Assam.

Youth20 is one of the eight official engagement groups under the G20 umbrella. These include: Business 20 (B20), Civil 20 (C20), Youth 20, Labour 20, Think 20, Women 20, Science 20, and Urban 20.

The G20 rotating presidency bears the responsibility of hosting the youth summit, which usually takes place some weeks prior to the traditional forum to know what the youths are thinking and incorporate their suggestions in their own policy proposals. It is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur had launched the themes, website, and logo of the Y20 Summit on January 6.

The Y20 India Summit in 2023 would exemplify India’s youth-centric efforts and provide an opportunity to showcase its values and policy measures to the youth across the globe, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said.
