PM Narendra Modi said that the Global South will drive growth in the twenty-first century

The Global South has the most stake in the future because developing countries house three-fourths of the world's population, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. He also underlined the need for an equal voice in the developing world.
Prime Minister Modi continued by saying that the Global South should attempt to influence the new order as the eight-decade-old model of global governance steadily shifts.
In his opening remarks at the Voice of the Global South virtual summit, PM Modi expressed worry about rising food, gasoline, and fertilizer costs, the economic effects of COVID-19, and natural catastrophes exacerbated by climate change.
He added that while the Global South is more affected by the majority of global crises, they are not primarily generated by the region.
"We have seen this in the impacts of Covid pandemic, climate change, terrorism and even the Ukraine conflict. The search for solutions also does not factor in our role or our voice," he added.
Prime Minister Modi stated that India has always been open about the developmental challenges it has faced with its Global South brothers.
"Our development partnerships cover all geographies and diverse sectors. We supplied medicines and vaccines to over 100 countries during the pandemic. India has always stood for greater role of developing countries in determining our common future," he added.
In order to draw attention to the fact that this year marks the start of India's G20 Presidency, PM Modi said that it is only logical that India's goal is to magnify the voice of the Global South. "For our G-20 Presidency, we have chosen the theme of – "One Earth, One Family, One Future". This is in line with our civilizational ethos. We believe the path to realizing ‘oneness’ is through human-centric development," he said.
"People of Global South should no longer be excluded from the fruits of development. Together we must attempt to redesign global political and financial governance. This can remove inequities, enlarge opportunities, support growth and spread progress and prosperity," he added.
Furthermore, despite the difficulties that the developing world was facing, PM Modi expressed hope that India's time would come.
Later, in his closing remarks at the event, PM Modi said that while developed nations historically fueled the world economy, the majority of these advanced economies are currently slowing down. He said that countries in the South will drive global growth in the twenty-first century.
According to Prime Minister Modi, if the global south cooperates, it can set the agenda for the world. He added that the summit will further expand and magnify the worthwhile ideas that have come out of the conversations held today, January 12, throughout the sessions scheduled for today and tomorrow.
He claimed that the Global South must adopt its own voice in order to break free from a cycle of dependence on other institutions and conditions.
The Voice of the Global South virtual conference aims to bring together nations to share their perspectives and objectives on a shared platform across a wide variety of topics. The conference has representatives from more than 120 nations.
