The two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral ties between the two nations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi have discussed cooperation in areas like digital initiatives, defence, and maritime security.

Meeting on the sidelines of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday, the two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi tweeted, "Had an excellent meeting with President @CSantokhi. We reviewed the full range of relations between India and Suriname. We discussed avenues of cooperation in futuristic areas like innovation, technology, maritime security and more."

President Santokhi is in India on an official visit from January 7–14; he is the Special Guest of Honor during the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

In their meeting, both leaders held discussions on cooperation in areas of mutual interest including hydrocarbons, defence, maritime security, digital initiatives and ICT, and capacity building, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said..

Suriname appreciated India's decision to restructure the debt arising from the lines of credit that Suriname had availed, the MEA added.

Earlier, in his speech at the PBD Convention, the President of Suriname emphasised the importance of establishing a diaspora fund. He also praised India's finance and health sectors. The president continued by saying that the convention offers India and Suriname a fantastic chance to discover new opportunities.

On Tuesday, President Santokhi will meet with President Droupadi Murmu, and attend the valedictory session and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award Ceremony. In Indore, he will also take part in the inaugural session the Global Investors Summit's opening ceremony. The following day, he will travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad.
