India and Slovenia also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest during their Foreign Office Consultations
Imparting a fresh boost to their bilateral relations, India and Slovenia on Friday held the 9th round of Foreign Office Consultations in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana and reviewed the progress made in their bilateral engagement in the last one year.



According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides discussed the way forward in crucial sectors such as Agriculture, Health, S&T, Defense, Space, Migration and Mobility, Climate innovation and Renewable energy. Last FOC in physical format was held in July 2010.


The re-launch of FTA negotiations and connectivity partnership between India and EU were acknowledged as key drivers for furthering economic relations at bilateral and India-EU levels.



India and Slovenia also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including – Afghanistan, Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific, European Union, United Nations, climate action, India’s G20 Presidency, and International Year of Millet 2023.


India and Slovenia celebrated 30 years of establishment of diplomatic relationship in 2022. The two countries share a strong bilateral relationship marked by regular exchanges at both political and official levels. Trade and economic activities between India and Slovenia are fast regaining pre-Covid levels.


At the FOC, while India was Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sanjay Verma, Slovenia was represented by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Samuel Žbogar.



India and Slovenia enjoy warm relations between them. In September 2021, External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar paid a visit to Slovenia to participate in the 16th annual Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) and to attend Gymnich meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers. This was the first ever visit to Slovenia by an Indian External Affairs Minister.
