EAM S Jaishankar highlighted the digital delivery for development
Transformative changes are underway in India, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has highlighted in discussions during his visit to Austria.

In meetings with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on Sunday and Monday respectively, he spoke particularly about digital delivery for India's development.

"I shared with Chancellor Nehammer yesterday and with Foreign Minister Schallenberg today the transformative changes underway in India. In particular, I highlighted the digital delivery for development and the green growth of the economy as well as the advancements in health security. We welcome partnerships that help us take these objectives forward," he said at a joint press conference with the Austrian Foreign Minister in Vienna on Monday.

Referring to talks with his Austrian counterpart, EAM Jaishankar said India views Austria as a serious and consequential partner when it comes to bilateral cooperation. "You have experiences and capabilities that are relevant to India’s modernisation and progress," he remarked.

While referring to the current trade turnover of approximately US $ 2.5 billion, he also pointed out that more than 150 Austrian companies are present in India. India’s presence in the Austrian economy has grown substantially, particularly so in the digital and auto industries, he added.

During the meeting, India and Austria inked a number of agreements, including the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement. This will enable demands for skills and talents to be synchronized with their availability, EAM Jaishankar said.

Pointing out that similar agreements have been recently concluded with Germany, France, Portugal, UK and Denmark, he said this will help India to cooperatively expand our economic opportunities and meet the requirements of the global knowledge economy.

The two ministers also discussed the threats to international peace and security that is posed by terrorism, including its cross-border practices, by violent extremism, radicalization and fundamentalism, he said.

"Their effects cannot be contained within a region. Especially so when they are deeply connected to narcotics and illegal weapons trade and other forms of international crimes. Since the epicenter is located so close to India, naturally our experiences and insights are useful to others," EAM Jaishankar explained.

On the Ukraine conflict, he underlined that India remains deeply concerned. "We sincerely believe that this is not the era of war. Differences must be settled on the negotiating table. It is imperative that there is a return to dialogue and diplomacy. Prolonged conflict will not serve the interests of any party," he said.

EAM Jaishankar had attended the iconic New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic on Sunday, where he met Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.

He had also held discussions with Chancellor Nehammer. "Our extensive conversation yesterday was very valuable in understanding Austria’s viewpoint, both about our relationship as well as on current global issues," he said

His engaments on Sunday included an interaction with the Indian community in Vienna.

"Underlined that Austria is a strong bilateral, EU and global partner. Shared with them the transformation that India is currently undergoing, thanks to the leadership and vision of PM @narendramodi," he tweeted.
