DRDO sets up 500-bedded COVID Hospital in Srinagar
The hospital has 125 ICU beds and Liquid Medical Oxygen tanks
A 500-bedded DRDO COVID Hospital with an ICU facility has become operational in Srinagar. The healthcare facility was inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday.
Constructed in 17 days, the facility in Srinagar's Khonmoh area includes 125 ICU beds & 375 beds connected to a high flow oxygen pipeline.
Of the 125 ICU beds in the centrally air-conditioned DRDO hospital, 25 are reserved for children. A 10-bedded Triage area has also been built in 100 sqm, housing all the requisite modern facilities, the LG's office said on Twitter.
According to DRDO officials, the hospital also has Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tanks.
Last week, another 500-bedded DRDO Covid Hospital funded by PM CARES became operational in Jammu. The facility in Bhagvati Nagar with oxygen supply has 125 ICU beds equipped with ventilators.
"DRDO has played a key role in India's fight against #COVID19. After completing a 500-bedded hospital in Jammu, a 500-bedded hospital in Srinagar, completed in just 17 days, is being commissioned today," J&K LG Sinha said.
"We devised a strategy to implement a host of interventions viz. augmentation of ICU & Oxygen supported beds, deployment of former medical and newly qualified staff, decentralization of health system through Panchayat Covid Care Centres & accelerated vaccination drive," his office quoted LG Sinha as saying after inaugurating the hospital.
LG Sinha added that J&K now had a greater capacity to treat all Covid-19 & other patients, all because of the dynamic impact assessment of various interventions and taking timely decisions to increase hospital capacity in response to the pandemic.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has 21,817 active cases of Covid-19, as per Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data till Wednesday morning. It has reported 4,101 deaths due to Coronavirus.
Hospitals for Covid-19 treatment have also been set up by the DRDO in cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gandhi Nagar, Haldwani and Rishikesh.
