Over 2.33 Lakh families in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be benefited from the scheme

Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council which met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu accorded sanction to J&K Special Sugar Scheme for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families. Over 2.33 Lakh families in the Union Territory will receive the benefit of the scheme. The families classified as AAY comprise the poorest of the poor sections of the society.

Under the scheme, one kilogram of sugar will be provided per AAY family per month through Point of Sale (PoS) devices, at subsidized rate of Rs 13.50 per kilogram with effect from the current month. For meeting the requirement of sugar under the scheme, the Administrative Council approved procurement of 2,800 Metric Tonnes of sugar per annum by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs from the open market through competitive bidding in e-tendering mode. The Administrative Council also decided that the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) shall be rechristened as J&K Food Entitlement Scheme.
