bilateral ties between India and Malaysia are set to grow stronger with cooperation in new and emerging areas such as digital public infrastructure, fintech, and semiconductors. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this was part of the discussions at the 6th India-Malaysia Joint Commission Meeting held in New Delhi on November 7, 2023. The meeting was co-chaired by Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zambry Abd Kadir and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Both sides decided to deepen economic and defense engagements, including cooperation in digital public infrastructure, fintech, and semiconductors. The meeting also reviewed progress in various areas of cooperation, including political, defense and security, trade and investment, energy, science and technology, culture, and tourism. Memoranda of Understanding were signed on cooperation in broadcasting and training of diplomats and other personnel. The visit of Foreign Minister Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir and the Joint Commission Meeting provided fresh impetus to relations between India and Malaysia. The Enhanced Strategic Partnership established in 2015 has facilitated deeper collaboration and shared progress between the two countries. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Malaysia in July 2023 further enhanced defense ties and focused on strengthening industrial cooperation. India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) also established a regional office in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate defense industrial collaboration between India and Malaysia.
