WPL 2027 Auction: 146 Players, Including 119 Indians, Listed
The Women's Premier League 2027 auction features 146 players, with 119 from India, competing for 27 slots in Kochi this October.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to hold its 2027 auction in Kochi on October 28. A total of 146 players have been shortlisted, including 119 Indian cricketers, for a limited number of 27 positions available in the league.

Notable players in the auction pool include Indian batter G Kamalini, who has gained recognition for her hard-hitting ability. Other distinguished names consist of all-rounder Sneh Rana, Australian captain Sophie Molineux, and Sri Lanka's captain Chamari Athapaththu. Each of these players brings significant skill and experience to the competitive landscape of women’s cricket.

The auction framework allows for varying base prices for the participants. The highest base price is set at INR 50 lakh (£50,000), followed by several lower price segments: INR 40 lakh (£40,000), INR 30 lakh (£30,000), INR 20 lakh (£20,000), and INR 10 lakh (£10,000). Among the top price segment, only two players will compete: Molineux and England's Sophia Dunkley, who previously played for Gujarat Giants.

Kamalini, a skilled wicketkeeper-batter, was released by Mumbai Indians and will enter the auction with a base price of INR 40 lakh. Sneh Rana, who had been off-loaded by Delhi Capitals, is in the INR 30 lakh category, along with Chamari Athapaththu.

The pool consists of 22 capped Indian players and 14 capped international players, as well as 97 uncapped Indian cricketers and 13 uncapped foreign players. As the auction approaches, the league aims to enhance the competitive spirit and showcase local and international talents in women's cricket, bolstering its stature within the sport.

The WPL continues to gain traction, bringing attention to women's cricket and offering opportunities to players who are looking to make their mark in the league. The upcoming event is keenly anticipated by fans, players, and officials alike, as it holds the promise of exciting talent acquisitions and future engagements in the sport.
