Windows 11 Version 26H1 to Support Only New Arm-based Processors
Microsoft has announced that the new version of Windows 11, designated 26H1, will be available exclusively for select new Arm-based processors. Users with older hardware configurations will continue to use the current version, 25H2.
The change signifies a shift in Microsoft’s approach towards supporting newer technology, particularly as the demand for Arm architecture increases in the computing market. Previously, Windows 11 has seen incorporation across a broader range of processors, but the latest update targets specific capabilities present in newer hardware.
Arm-based processors, known for their efficiency and performance, are becoming increasingly popular in various devices, including smartphones and tablets, as well as in the PC sector. The compatibility shift is likely aimed at optimising Windows 11’s performance for new hardware that can better handle the operating system’s requirements.
It remains unclear when Microsoft may roll out further updates for systems currently running the older 25H2 version, but users can expect these machines to remain on their existing operating system until further announcements. Such a strategy may impact consumer decisions for purchasing new devices, especially with Arm architecture becoming more prevalent.
As technology continues to evolve, Microsoft’s focus on newer processors indicates its commitment to leveraging advancements for enhanced user experience and performance capabilities.
